Solar Panel Warranties
Every EnergiSense solar installation carries the following panel-level warranties, provided by the panel manufacturer and passed through to the customer:
- 25-year production warranty: Panels are guaranteed to produce at least 92% of their rated output at year 25. This applies to all tier-1 panels in our portfolio — Q-Cell, REC, Trina, Hyundai, SEG, and Canadian Solar.
- 12-year product warranty: Covers defects in materials and manufacturing. If a panel fails due to a manufacturing defect within 12 years, the manufacturer replaces it at no cost to you.
- 10-year workmanship warranty: Covers EnergiSense's installation work — roof penetrations, racking hardware, wiring, conduit, and all labor associated with the solar installation.
Inverter and Battery Warranties
Inverter and battery warranties are provided by the respective manufacturer:
- Enphase microinverters — 12-year product warranty: Covers manufacturing defects in Enphase microinverter units. Enphase Enlighten monitors each microinverter individually — if a unit underperforms, it is flagged automatically before you notice a bill change.
- Tesla Powerwall 3 — 10-year warranty: Tesla's standard Powerwall 3 warranty covers the battery unit and the integrated inverter for 10 years, subject to Tesla's warranty terms and capacity thresholds.
- Enphase IQ Battery 5P — 10-year warranty: Covers the battery unit for 10 years. Monitoring and performance tracking through the Enphase Enlighten platform.
Roofing Warranties
EnergiSense is a GAF Master Elite certified contractor — the top 2% of roofing contractors in the United States by GAF's credentialing standards. This certification unlocks the highest-tier manufacturer warranties available:
- 50-year GAF HDZ shingle warranty: The GAF Timberline HDZ shingle carries a 50-year manufacturer warranty including StainGuard Plus algae protection and a 130 mph wind rating. This is a manufacturer-backed warranty on the shingle product itself.
- 25-year Master Elite labor warranty (System Plus): As a GAF Master Elite contractor, EnergiSense can offer the GAF System Plus warranty, which extends coverage to labor and workmanship for 25 years. This is above what non-certified contractors can provide.
- GAF Storm Guard underlayment: Included in all EnergiSense HDZ installations. Storm Guard provides an additional layer of water infiltration protection at the eaves and rakes.
- GAF Liberty membrane (flat roofs): Applied on NYC outer-borough flat roof projects. Warranty terms depend on the specific Liberty system installed — confirmed in your project documentation.
System Monitoring
Every solar installation includes access to real-time production monitoring. No panel cleaning is required — performance monitoring software flags underproduction automatically:
- Enphase Enlighten app: Available on iOS and Android. Monitors each microinverter independently. Alerts you and EnergiSense if any unit underperforms.
- Tesla app: For Powerwall 3 installs. Monitors battery state, solar production, grid import/export, and home consumption in real time.
If monitoring detects a hardware issue, EnergiSense facilitates the warranty claim with the manufacturer. You do not need to manage this process yourself.
How to File a Warranty Claim
To initiate a warranty claim, contact Alex directly:
- Email: alex@energisense.com
- Phone or text: Contact via the number provided in your project agreement
Describe the issue you are observing — include screenshots from your Enphase Enlighten or Tesla app if available. Alex will assess the issue, determine whether it is covered under product, labor, or manufacturer warranty, and coordinate the claim or repair on your behalf.
For manufacturer warranty claims (panel defects, inverter failures), EnergiSense acts as the intermediary. You are not responsible for managing the RMA or replacement process with the manufacturer directly.
What Warranties Do Not Cover
The following are generally not covered by the warranties described above:
- Damage caused by acts of nature beyond the rated wind and weather specifications (e.g., direct lightning strike, extreme weather exceeding design parameters)
- Damage caused by unauthorized modifications or repairs to the system
- Normal degradation within the warranted production threshold (panels degrading to 92% by year 25 is expected and covered; degrading within that threshold is normal operation)
- Issues caused by changes to the home's electrical system made after installation without EnergiSense's involvement
- Permit or utility delays not attributable to EnergiSense
Specific exclusions for each warranty category are detailed in the manufacturer's warranty documentation, which is provided to you at project completion.
