The Powerwall 3 integrates battery and inverter into one unit — ideal if you are starting fresh or replacing an existing system. It monitors through the Tesla app and handles whole-home backup with one installation point. The Enphase IQ Battery 5P is modular: pair it with Enphase microinverters already on your panels and stack units as your storage goals grow. Monitoring runs through Enphase Enlighten. Alex recommends hardware based on your existing equipment, your roof configuration, and how much backup capacity you need — not on which unit has a higher margin.

Why does battery storage improve net metering on PSEG?
PSEG offers enhanced net-metering credit rates for customers who pair battery storage with solar. Without battery: 1:1 net metering — every kilowatt-hour you export earns one kilowatt-hour credit. With battery: 1:2 peak-to-off-peak and 1:4 peak-to-super-off-peak. The battery charges during low-rate windows and discharges during high-rate windows, maximizing both self-consumption and bill credit value.
What is the difference between Tesla Powerwall 3 and Enphase IQ Battery 5P?
The Tesla Powerwall 3 is a single-unit battery and inverter combo — it replaces the need for a separate solar inverter and integrates directly with your Tesla app for monitoring. The Enphase IQ Battery 5P is modular — you can stack multiple units if you need more storage capacity, and it pairs with Enphase microinverters already on your panels. Alex recommends hardware based on your roof, your current system (if any), and your outage protection goals.
Is battery storage available in all of New York?
Battery storage is currently not available on NYC borough installs — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. We can pair battery with installs in Long Island, Westchester, Hudson Valley, and upstate NY. If you are in an NYC borough, solar-only installs are still available.
Does battery help in a power outage?
Yes. Both the Tesla Powerwall 3 and Enphase IQ Battery 5P provide whole-home or partial-home backup depending on system size and configuration. During an outage, the battery automatically islands your home from the grid and continues powering your circuits. The Tesla app and Enphase Enlighten app both provide real-time monitoring.
Are there incentives for battery storage?
