Search for PSEG rebates from a Long Island address and Google mixes in PSE&G, the New Jersey utility with a different program, along with PDFs, 2022 and 2023 news stories with rebate amounts that have since changed, and forum threads. This guide is only about PSEG Long Island, which runs the energy efficiency programs for the Long Island Power Authority in Nassau, Suffolk and the Rockaways, and only about what it publishes for 2026.

It lists every residential rebate PSEG Long Island still pays, the amount at each income tier, the conditions that decide whether you get the full amount or nothing, the rebates that ended on December 31, 2025, and how and when to apply. Every amount comes from a PSEG Long Island or NYSERDA page linked next to it, read on October 2, 2026. The estimator below adds them up for your household and project.

Two corrections to things you may have read elsewhere. There is no PSEG Long Island single-family rebate for one mini-split in one room. And NYSERDA's Comfort Home insulation incentive is limited to homeowners who pay the System Benefits Charge, which LIPA customers do not pay; on Long Island the insulation rebate comes from PSEG Long Island's own Home Performance program, and at the low-income tier it is larger.

The numbers, with sources

Every PSEG Long Island home rebate open in 2026

PSEG Long Island pays residential rebates through three routes, and which route a rebate goes through decides who applies for it. Heat pump and Home Performance rebates (insulation, air sealing, duct sealing, windows) are paid through participating contractors: PSEG states that you must use one of its participating contractors to be eligible. Appliance rebates (heat pump water heaters, smart thermostats, Level 2 EV chargers) you claim yourself through PSEG's online application, or get instantly at checkout on the PSEG Long Island Marketplace.

The amounts below are single-family figures (one to four units) at the market rate, with the income-based amounts in the last column. The income tiers are explained in the next section.

Which tier are you? The 2026 income limits and the Disadvantaged Community check

PSEG Long Island uses three tiers. Low income is a household at or under 60% of area median income. Moderate income is at or under 80%. Market rate is everyone else. A market-rate home inside a Disadvantaged Community, as mapped by New York State, moves up to the middle tier's amounts. The limits are gross household income for the year, by the number of people in the household.

PSEG verifies income through its own income verification process before an income-based rebate is paid, and publishes an Income Determination Tool (an Excel file) to check which programs a household may qualify for. Income-eligible households can also get enhanced heat pump rebates through Home Comfort Plus and low-interest loans through New York State's Green Jobs – Green New York program, which PSEG points to on the same pages.

  • Households of 9 and 10 are on PSEG's page too: $138,495 and $146,409 (low), $184,660 and $195,212 (moderate).
  • Check a Disadvantaged Community address on NYSERDA's map before you count the higher amount; it is set by location, not by income.
  • The Home Performance table puts Disadvantaged Community and moderate income in the same column, and low income in the highest column whether or not the home is in a Disadvantaged Community.

Pick your household size, add your income if you want the income tiers checked, and tick the work you are planning. The estimator applies PSEG Long Island's published 2026 amounts and its order-of-work rules, such as insulation needing air sealing and windows needing a whole-house heat pump.

Loading the rebate estimator…

Heat pump rebates: whole-house systems only

PSEG Long Island's single-family heat pump rebate is a whole-house rebate. The system must be sized to meet 100 to 120% of the entire dwelling's heating load, documented with a Manual J load calculation, and the equipment must be on the NEEP cold-climate air source heat pump list when the application is submitted (air-to-water heat pumps must be on New York State's AWHP qualified product list). If the oil or gas system stays, integrated controls listed on Mass Save are required and the heat pump must be the primary heat; otherwise the fossil system has to be removed.

Three more lines from PSEG's page matter at the end of the job. Cost caps may apply. The final rebate is based on the equipment actually installed and may be lower than the pre-approved amount. And the separate $250 contractor incentive is paid to the contractor, not to you. Installed prices and the net cost after each tier are worked through in our heat pump cost guide, so they are not repeated here.

  • Market rate: $4,000.
  • Moderate income, or market rate in a Disadvantaged Community: $5,000.
  • Low income: $7,500.
  • Multifamily buildings of five or more units have their own per-dwelling rebates ($4,000 for in-unit heat pumps in existing buildings, $5,000 in a Disadvantaged Community) and need pre-approval before work begins.

Is there a PSEG Long Island rebate for a mini-split?

Not for one mini-split in one room. PSEG Long Island publishes its single-family heat pump rebate for whole-house projects, so a single head for a cold bedroom, a sunroom or an addition gets no PSEG rebate, however efficient it is. One answer that ranks for this search says PSEG rebates "often" cover several units for free; PSEG's 2026 rebate page publishes no per-unit or per-room rebate for a single-family home.

A ductless system can still qualify. A multi-zone mini-split system designed to carry 100 to 120% of the whole house heating load by Manual J, with NEEP-listed equipment and every other condition met, is a whole-house project and qualifies for the same $4,000, $5,000 or $7,500 as a ducted system. For a house heated by an oil boiler through baseboard or radiators, with no ducts to reuse, a whole-house ductless design is one of the two heat pump routes PSEG rebates; the other is an air-to-water heat pump.

  • One room or an addition: no single-family rebate.
  • Several heads sized together for the whole house: whole-house rebate, if every condition is met.
  • Ask for the design in writing before you sign: which rooms each head serves, the capacity of each head, and the outdoor unit capacity at 5°F from the NEEP listing.

Insulation and air sealing on Long Island: PSEG Home Performance, not Comfort Home

Many insulation pages written for New York State quote NYSERDA's Comfort Home program: $2,500 for sealing and insulating the attic and rim joist, $3,000 with walls and floors. NYSERDA's Comfort Home fact sheet limits the program to homeowners of one-to-four family homes who pay into the System Benefits Charge on their electric bill, and NYSERDA's own 2025 report describes Long Island Power Authority customers as customers who do not pay into the System Benefits Charge. So on a PSEG Long Island bill, the program to look at is PSEG Long Island's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR.

Its 2026 measures list took effect on January 1, 2026. It applies to single-family homes in PSEG Long Island territory heated by oil, natural gas, propane or electricity. The rules are strict about order: insulation is only rebated together with comprehensive, blower-door assisted air sealing, every duct in unconditioned space has to be sealed, and windows are rebated only alongside a whole-house cold-climate heat pump plus insulation and air sealing.

  • Insulation plus the air sealing it requires comes to $3,500 at market rate, $4,375 in the middle tier and $7,200 at low income.
  • Program financing for every eligible measure is available through NYSERDA, according to PSEG's measures list.
  • PSEG also encourages income-eligible households to use contractors who take part in NYSERDA's EmPower+, which it describes as open to income-eligible owners and renters of one- to four-family homes.
  • If your home is in Con Edison, Central Hudson or another territory where the System Benefits Charge is on the bill, as in most of New York City, Westchester and the Hudson Valley, Comfort Home is the program to check instead.

The free Whole House Energy Assessment

PSEG Long Island offers a free Whole House Energy Assessment. You find a participating contractor and complete the online application. PSEG lists what the visit covers: a check of insulation and drafts, a thermal scan to find hidden heat loss, and a blower door test to find air leaks. It says the right improvements could save up to 20% on energy bills, and that weatherization alone could lower energy costs by up to 10%.

The assessment is also where the rebates connect. The Home Performance rebates depend on the results of the comprehensive assessment, the air sealing rebate requires blower-door assisted work, and the tighter house is what the heat pump's Manual J should be run on.

Heat pump water heater rebate: up to $1,200

PSEG Long Island advertises heat pump water heater rebates of up to $1,200 for ENERGY STAR certified electric models. The 2026 terms add the limits: one heat pump water heater per residential account every five years (counted from 2021), the rebate can be no more than 50% of the retail price you paid, and the purchase and installation dates must both be in 2026, with the application postmarked by December 31, 2026.

The paperwork is specific. PSEG asks for two photos, one of the unit where it is permanently installed and one of the model and serial number plate, plus an itemized paid-in-full invoice dated in 2026. Online purchases need proof of delivery or pickup, and every submission can be inspected afterwards.

  • If your oil boiler also heats your water, a heat pump conversion that removes the boiler means a new water heater anyway. Count this rebate in the same plan.
  • A $2,000 water heater can earn no more than $1,000, because of the 50% cap.

Smart thermostat rebates: $100 or $130, plus $85 through Smart Savers

PSEG Long Island pays $100 or $130 for a new ENERGY STAR smart thermostat; which one depends on the model list PSEG publishes. The limit is two per residential account per calendar year across the Connected and Learning types, the rebate cannot exceed 50% of the price, and the application is due within 45 days of purchase and no later than December 31, 2026. A standard smart thermostat without the ENERGY STAR rating does not qualify.

Two details save people a rejected application. A thermostat bought on the PSEG Long Island Marketplace already has the rebate taken off at checkout and cannot get a second one. And the Smart Savers program is separate: PSEG pays $85 if you have central air and install a qualifying smart thermostat that PSEG can adjust briefly during periods of high demand.

Geothermal and EV charger rebates

Geothermal (ground-source) heat pumps have their own PSEG Long Island rebates, which vary with the system, with new or existing construction, and by tier, with higher amounts for income-eligible and Disadvantaged Community households. The equipment must be purchased from and installed by one of PSEG's participating Geothermal Partners, so the amount for a given house comes from them.

For electric vehicles, PSEG's 2026 online application lists one Level 2 smart charger per account, and its EV pages cover the Time-of-Day rates that make home charging cheaper, including a super off-peak overnight rate discounted by up to 40% from the flat rate. Confirm the charger rebate amount on PSEG's residential EV page before you buy.

What ended: rebates discontinued on December 31, 2025

PSEG Long Island's 2026 FAQ lists six appliance rebates that stopped on December 31, 2025. Applications had to be invoiced by that date and submitted within 45 days. The reason PSEG gives: under New York's May 2025 New Efficiency: New York orders, appliances the state considers "non-strategic", meaning they do not advance beneficial electrification, must be dropped from all energy efficiency programs.

  • ENERGY STAR electric dryer.
  • ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2025 clothes washer.
  • ENERGY STAR dehumidifier.
  • ENERGY STAR room air purifier, under 150 CADR.
  • ENERGY STAR room air purifier, 150 CADR and over.
  • ENERGY STAR electric induction cooktop, 4 to 5 burners.
  • Separately, the heat pump pool heater rebate ended on October 31, 2025.
  • Not PSEG, but often confused with it: the federal 25C tax credit for heat pumps and insulation covered improvements made through December 31, 2025, so a 2026 install does not qualify.

How to apply, and the deadlines that cost people the rebate

For appliance rebates you apply yourself on PSEG's online application with your PSEG Long Island account number, a digital copy of the invoice and, for some products, photos. You pick how you want to be paid, either a check or a credit on an upcoming bill, and confirm you are the customer of record. A paper application is still possible by calling PSEG's Energy Efficiency Infoline at 1-800-692-2626 and asking for one to be sent, but it is slower.

For heat pumps and Home Performance work the participating contractor runs the process with you, including the income verification for a higher tier and any inspection PSEG requires. PSEG's heat pump page notes that the final payment can be lower than the pre-approved amount if the installed equipment differs, so keep the approved equipment list and the installed equipment matched.

  • Apply within 45 days of purchase. PSEG asks for it and the thermostat terms require it.
  • Expect up to 10 weeks, longer if the application has errors or arrives in a busy period.
  • Track it under Ways to Save, then Rebates in My Account, or with your OLA number on the rebate status page.
  • PSEG may call to inspect: by photo, by video call or in person. Call the Infoline to confirm a call is really from PSEG.
  • PSEG reserves the right to apply a rebate to an account that is in arrears.
  • Marketplace purchases already include the rebate; do not apply again.

Solar and batteries: what PSEG Long Island does and does not pay

None of PSEG Long Island's 2026 residential rebate pages lists a rebate for solar panels. On Long Island the solar side of a project runs through NYSERDA's NY-Sun program, through net metering on your PSEG Long Island bill, and for batteries through two programs: NYSERDA's energy storage installation incentive for Long Island residents, which covers the storage part of a solar-plus-storage system installed by a participating NY-Sun contractor, with more for households under 80% of area median income, and LIPA's Dynamic Load Management program, which pays battery owners to cut demand at the few peak times each year.

That is why the order of a whole-house plan matters on Long Island. Heat pump and envelope rebates come from PSEG Long Island, the solar and storage incentives come from NYSERDA and LIPA, and the solar array should be sized to the electric load after the heat pump is in, not before.

The order of work that keeps every rebate intact

Most of the money is lost by doing things in the wrong order: insulating without air sealing, sizing a heat pump to the old boiler and then sealing the house, or buying windows before the heat pump. This is the order PSEG's own rules point to.

Questions to ask before you count a PSEG rebate on a quote

A quote that shows a PSEG Long Island rebate should answer these in writing. If it cannot, treat the rebate as unconfirmed.

  • Are you a PSEG Long Island participating contractor for this program (heat pumps, Home Performance or geothermal), and can you show it?
  • Which tier are you counting, and has my income been verified through PSEG's process or is it an assumption?
  • Is the price on the quote before or after the rebate, and who receives the rebate payment?
  • For a heat pump: where is the Manual J, does the design meet 100–120% of the whole house load, and is every model on the NEEP list today?
  • For insulation: is blower-door assisted air sealing included, and will you test before and after?
  • If my oil system stays as backup, which integrated controls are you installing, and are they listed on Mass Save?
  • Who files the application, who schedules the pre-inspection, and what happens if the final payment comes in lower than the pre-approval?

FAQs

What rebates does PSEG Long Island offer in 2026?

For homes, PSEG Long Island pays rebates on whole-house cold-climate heat pumps ($4,000 to $7,500), Home Performance insulation ($2,500 to $5,200), air sealing ($1,000 to $2,000), duct sealing ($500 to $800) and windows ($4 to $8 per square foot), ENERGY STAR heat pump water heaters (up to $1,200), ENERGY STAR smart thermostats ($100 or $130), Level 2 smart EV chargers and geothermal heat pumps. The Whole House Energy Assessment is free. Heat pump and Home Performance rebates require a participating contractor.

How much is the PSEG Long Island heat pump rebate in 2026?

For a whole-house cold-climate heat pump in a single-family home, PSEG Long Island publishes $4,000 at market rate, $5,000 for moderate-income households (80% of area median income) or market-rate homes in a Disadvantaged Community, and $7,500 for low-income households (60% of area median income). The system must meet 100 to 120% of the whole house heating load by Manual J, be NEEP-listed, use integrated controls or remove the fossil system, and be installed by a participating contractor.

Does PSEG Long Island give a rebate for a mini-split?

Not for a single mini-split serving one room. PSEG Long Island publishes its single-family heat pump rebate for whole-house projects only. A multi-zone ductless system sized by Manual J to carry 100 to 120% of the whole house heating load, with NEEP-listed equipment, can qualify for the same $4,000 to $7,500 whole-house rebate.

Does PSEG Long Island have insulation rebates?

Yes, through its Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program. The 2026 amounts are $2,500 for insulation at market rate, $3,125 for moderate income or a Disadvantaged Community, and $5,200 for low income, plus $1,000, $1,250 or $2,000 for the air sealing that insulation must be installed with. The work has to be done by a participating Home Performance contractor, with blower-door assisted air sealing to BPI standards.

Can Long Island homeowners use NYSERDA's Comfort Home program?

Generally not if PSEG Long Island is the electric utility. NYSERDA limits Comfort Home to homeowners who pay the System Benefits Charge on their electric bill, and NYSERDA describes Long Island Power Authority customers as not paying into it. PSEG Long Island customers use PSEG's own Home Performance program for insulation and air sealing rebates instead.

How long does a PSEG Long Island rebate take?

PSEG Long Island says online applications can take up to 10 weeks to process, longer if there are errors or during busy periods. You choose a check or a credit on an upcoming bill, and you can track the application in My Account or with your OLA number on the rebate status page. Apply within 45 days of purchase.

Does PSEG Long Island still give rebates for dryers, washers or dehumidifiers?

No. PSEG Long Island discontinued rebates for ENERGY STAR electric dryers, Most Efficient clothes washers, dehumidifiers, room air purifiers and induction cooktops on December 31, 2025, under New York's May 2025 New Efficiency: New York orders. The heat pump pool heater rebate ended on October 31, 2025.

Is the PSEG Long Island energy assessment free?

Yes. PSEG Long Island offers a free Whole House Energy Assessment through its participating contractors. It includes a check of insulation and drafts, a thermal scan for hidden heat loss and a blower door test for air leaks, and its results feed the Home Performance rebates for insulation, air sealing and duct sealing.
